Hozo – Treasure House of Art and Culture
Hozo is deeply intertwined with my own story — a story shaped by the land where I was born and raised. Jharkhand, a region rich with tribal culture, natural beauty, and artistic traditions that breathe through every community.
Growing up, I was surrounded by the captivating world of Jharkhand’s tribal art forms — the rhythmic strokes of Sohrai painted with earth pigments, the bold geometric patterns of Khovar, the symbolic motifs carved into wood and stone, and the instinctive creativity woven into everyday life. These art forms were not just visual expressions; they were living traditions, passed down through generations, reflecting the deep bond tribal communities share with the forests, animals, rivers, and seasons.
As a child, I watched artisans create colours from the soil they walked on, from flowers that bloomed in the fields, and from minerals found in the hills. Their art emerged from nature itself — pure, unaltered, and soulful. Being in their presence taught me that true craftsmanship flows from harmony with one’s environment.
Years later, during my travels, I stepped into a quiet village workshop where an elderly artisan painted with the same natural pigments I had seen as a child. His movements carried the same grace, patience, and cultural depth I had known growing up in Jharkhand. In that moment, I realized how fragile these traditions had become — not because they lacked beauty, but because the modern world often overlooks their significance.
That moment sparked the creation of Hozo.
I founded Hozo with a vision to preserve, promote, and celebrate traditional Indian art, with a special commitment to the tribal craftsmanship of Jharkhand. From Sohrai and Khovar paintings, to naturally dyed textiles, hand-carved wooden art, and earth-inspired motifs, Hozo strives to bring these authentic tribal expressions to a global audience.
Each product we curate carries the essence of this heritage — the stories of the artisans, the raw beauty of natural materials, and the cultural rhythms that shape tribal art. Through Hozo, we aim to empower tribal artists, support sustainable livelihoods, and keep these ancestral art forms alive for future generations.
My journey across India continually reaffirms what Jharkhand taught me: tradition is not the past — it is a living force that must be nurtured.
Thank you for being part of this mission.
Together, we honour craftsmanship, tribal identity, and the timeless bond between art and nature —
preserving Jharkhand’s heritage, one handmade creation at a time.
