About the Artist
Sukhiram Maravi, born in 1989 in Dindori, Madhya Pradesh, is a contemporary Gond tribal artist. He grew up in a Gond community and developed an early interest in art. After moving to Bhopal, he began learning Gond painting under the guidance of his first guru, Bahan Budhwariya.
His artistic journey was not easy. He initially worked as a labourer and received nursing training, but gradually returned to painting with the encouragement and support of his wife. Over time, he developed his own distinctive style.
Sukhiram draws inspiration from nature, forests, animals, birds and tribal life. His paintings are characterised by vibrant colours, intricate patterns, fine lines and the traditional Gond technique of using dots and rhythmic detailing. Through these elements, he brings traditional stories and his experiences of nature to life.
He joined TRIFED in 2010 and has participated in various art workshops, competitions and exhibitions across cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Bhopal. His artworks are part of private collections in India and abroad, making him an emerging voice in contemporary Gond art.
